1.1.5 Structure of Newcastle Children's Social Care

This chapter was amended in March 2017 in line with revised local structure. An updated version of 'Senior Management Structure - Newcastle Children's Social Care Flowchart' was added.

Children’s Social Care has a legal duty to safeguard children, especially those who are at risk of being abused or neglected.

The Initial Response Service is the first point of contact for anyone who is worried about a child’s safety or welfare and will respond to any concerns.

The Long Term Social Work Teams work with children and families who are identified to be in long term need of services, either as a child with complex needs or subject of a Child Protection Plan. The service undertakes work with children to plan their future services according to their assessed need. This includes work with children and young people who are Looked After by Newcastle City Council.
